Contrairement au reste du Royaume de France, le duché de Bretagne a prospéré durant la Guerre de Cent ans grâce à la politique d’équilibre menée par le duc Jean V. Cette politique se résume en une alliance avec l’Angleterre dans un premier temps, puis en une neutralité dans le conflit anglo-français.
