All We Imagine is Light
This film is a beautiful love letter to Mumbai. A tale, which places three women’s lives at its centre. It seems to say that despite the fabulously wealthy living there, the people who make Mumbai such a unique place in which to live, are the simple people, those who have gone there to pursue their dreams.
London’s Indian Film Festival
The festival included acclaimed documentaries, shorts, features as well as screenings of some of the country’s recent classics. This year’s festival also included a live interview with the legendary Aparna Sen.
The Last Film Show: The successful passion of a child
How do you recreate the joy of seeing your very first film? Film director Pan Nalin from India, manages to do just this in his masterful feature, The Last Film, premiering at this year’s Tribeca film festival. Nalin’s film is both a stunning love letter to cinema as well as an insightful portrait of a life moulded by a single childhood event, that child’s first visit to a movie theatre.
PARTITION VOICES
While for India their defining moment would of course be partition, a division imposed on India and Pakistan by the retreating British government. One which ultimately cost the lives of an estimated two million people, while also leaving another ten to twelve million homeless. A partition which also resulted in another war, one in Bangladesh, when that country subsequently fought for its own independence.
